Ukraine and Poland

[edit]

I changed some descriptions related to Ukraine and Poland because this map shows situation in 1941. Thus, it was not Soviet Ukraine but German Reichskommissariat Ukraine. Regarding question of Poland, this map does not show history of Poland, but history of Hungary and territories annexed by Hungary. Thus, I do not see why map should have description that there was Poland there in 1939 while there is no similar description for other territories? For example, in 1939, there was Yugoslavia and not Croatia. Same thing is with Poland and Nazi Germany. As I said, map shows borders in 1941 (which its legend states), so we should keep map descriptions in that line. If we try to mention all pre-war borders and countries in this map we would need much more info and map would be overfilled with text in such case. These pre-war borders should be better described in articles where this map is posted. PANONIAN (talk) 19:44, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Another problem is the fact that part of Poland in question went firstly to Soviet Union in 1939 and then to Nazi Germany only in 1941. So description which stated "Nazi Germany 1941 (Poland 1939)" completely failed to mention period of Soviet rule. Finally, this territory is today part of Ukraine, so I do not see why it would be important that this map mention that it was part of Poland in 1939. PANONIAN (talk) 19:53, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, this is map name because map shows territorial changes of Hungary since 1938. But, as you can see in original map version, map legend claims that borders in map are "States borders in 1941": https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/archive/e/ec/20140217173816!Hungary_1938-1947.png So, political situation of states around Hungary is from 1941. Anyway, which other changes in this map you proposing? PANONIAN (talk) 17:29, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Main problem is the fact that while borders of pre-war Poland and General government are corresponding one to another (which is just a coincidence in this case), borders of other states from 1938 and 1941 are not same. Therefore, map does not shows pre-war borders of Romania, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia or Austria. The only states borders which are shown are indeed those from 1941. You can always ask User:PANONIAN for this file to be renamed from "Hungary 1938-1947.png" to "Hungary 1941.png" by clicking on the down-arrow in the top-bar. In 1938 the war didn't start yet. Poland was a sovereign country. If we go only by the present name of this file, everything on it is wrong. But what I'm suggesting is that you do some more homework and instead of asking for a file-move, you include in this map the actual borders and proper description of countries and dates between 1938 and 1947 instead. You can use different color for each border-change to make the map legible. Poeticbent talk 02:46, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
All right, file is now renamed to "Hungary in 1941 with territories annexed in 1938-1941". I hope this is now ok? If we tried to adjust map borders to old title instead we would have to show 1947 borders as well (and not just those in 1938) and in such case map would be full or irrelevant informations. Point of this map was to show borders of Hungary in 1941 and territorial annexations of Hungary from 1938 to 1941 which made those borders in 1941. Question of borders of any other country is not a subject of this map. There are other maps here in commons which are focused on other countries (Poland included).
