Copyright and author[edit]

What evidence is there that the author of this photo is "Work of The White House" and therefore a work of the United States Government per title 17, chapter 1, section 105 of the US Code? The fact that it's on a white house web page (in a different format, resolution and presentation) doesn't mean that it is, in the same way that the fact that it's on stmarystoday.com doesn't mean that they are the author or copyright holder. The author and copyright holder are unknown as far as I can see, from the evidence given on this page. Whitson and Galinsky (talk) 12:22, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that you are correct. I have contacted comments@whitehouse.gov to see if they can provide any further information on the image. ~MDD4696 17:55, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
At the bottom of the source URL at St. Mary's today there is a credit: "White House photo by Eric Draper". Eric Draper is the White House Photo Director and personal photographer for President George W. Bush. This I believe is sufficient for establishing the copyright status as a PD-GOV work. However it would still be interesting to see if the White House responds. ~MDD4696 18:01, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The email was returned as undeliverable... not surprising given the inauguration I suppose. ~MDD4696 02:55, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
