Location of this painting?[edit]

I spent a little time googling to see if I could find a specific location for this painting. About the best I could do was "Upper Missouri River." This Google Books ref might help. This painting is #387. https://books.google.com/books?id=dm2W5BgpTbgC&lpg=PA274&ots=Z0vkpo8_H2&dq=%22Buffalo%20Island%22%20location%20Catlin%20painting&pg=PA274#v=onepage&q=%22Buffalo%20Island%22%20location%20Catlin%20painting&f=true The following painting, #388, is of Fort Union, an American Fur Co. trading post. The fort was located near today's Fort Buford, Montana. Preceding painting, #386, is of a Riccaree village, near today's Bennett, Dak. (Dakota territory?)

I had hoped the paintings were arranged in order of location. Alas, they are not. The old catalog is an 1885 report to the Smithsonian on the Catlin Gallery, which was then (and is now) in the National Museum in Washington, DC. It is an interesting catalog. --Pete Tillman (talk) 20:42, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
