United Kingdom[edit]

The United Kingdom is masculine ("o Reino Unido"), but it's coloured purple. I've managed to change that but I don't know how to upload the correct file. 82.9.237.71 22:47, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed[edit]

Morocco should be yellow (neutral). In portuguese we say "Algo ocorreu em Marrocos", not "no Marrocos" (masculine) nor "na Marrocos" (feminine).

Marrocos devia ser amarelo (neutro). Em português diz-se "Algo ocorreu em Marrocos", não "no Marrocos" (masculino) nem "na Marrocos" (feminino).

Faroe Islands[edit]

In the map, one island north of Iceland is circled with the hint that it takes a plural article. I assume that this hint is supposed to refer to the Faroe Islands. However, the island circled is Jan Mayen. The Faroe Islands are located further south, roughly halfway between Iceland and Scotland. Pikku (talk) 21:36, 25 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Misleading idea of "neutral"[edit]

Portuguese doesn't have a neutral gender for nouns, not even country names. If a country doesn't have an article, it still has a gender.

People use this idea of em/no/na to determine neutral/masculine/feminine, but this is just a lack of understanding in how the language works. "no" is short for "em o" and "na" is short for "em a", so you're using "em" for all these forms. The only reason why it's "em Marrocos" is because there's a lack of an article. But "Marrocos" is still masculine, so you would say "Marrocos é bontio(s)" (depending on if you consider it singular or plural).

All these "neutral" countries should be split into masculine and feminine, but they can still be separate from the ones with articles. So you would have four categories: "masc. with article", "masc w/o article", "fem. with article", "fem w/o article".

So some of the countries that are incorrectly labelled as neutral, that should be changed:

country/region grammatical gender example sentence
Andorra feminine Andorra é bonita
Angola feminine Angola é bonita
Belize masculine/feminine Belize é bonito/a
Cabo Verde masculine Cabo Verde é bonito
Essuatíni masculine Essuatíni é bonito
Honduras feminine plural Honduras são bonitas
Israel masculine Israel é bonito
Macau masculine Macau é bonito
Marrocos masculine (plural) Marrocos é/são bonito(s)
Moçambique masculine Moçambique é bonito
Portugal masculine Portugal é bonito
Timor Leste masculine Timor Leste é bonito

Improvement[edit]

@Zorion: can you improve this map again? To have a transparent background again. Xharey (talk) 15:44, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
