Updates[edit]

Hey @Userd898! Excellent work on this map, it's very detailed and provides a lot of helpful information for understanding the political situation in West and Central Africa. I was wondering if you are planning to update this as the situation in the Françafrique develops? Since the map's creation in June, there have been coups in Niger and Gabon, with the former going in a decisively anti-French direction. --Grnrchst (talk) 10:14, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Grnrchst! i am sorry for not replying earlier, thanks for your feedback; yes I am planning to keep updating the map once a month to reflect significant developments, i have updated it a few days ago to reflect the situation as of november Userd898 (talk) 15:44, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Why is Gabon marked as pro-Russian? I thought the coup wasn't a Russian backed one. NorthTension (talk) 19:39, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Off-wiki re-use without attribution[edit]

Hey @Userd898. Today I noticed that your map was used extensively in a video by RealLifeLore about the Françafrique conflict. It is used at the time stamps 0:05-0:15; 3:52-4:15; 36:50-37:46; 38:08-38:24; 39:28-39:54; 41:02-41:55; and 42:18-43:15 (that's 7.6% of a 49 minute video). Every part of it, from the design, to the colours and markers, to even the labels in the key and the historical variations in your updates, are identical to the map you created. Despite the conditions of the license you released this map under stipulating that attribution is required, they don't appear to have credited you or even Wikimedia Commons at any point in the video or in the description.

This was upsetting to see, as I know how much work you've put into creating and updating this map (and others). I expected something that used your work this extensively to at least credit you somewhere, but was disappointed to see that wasn't the case. I can see they've used other maps too, each also without credit, so I can only assume they've pulled from a number of other sources without bothering to cite them either. I'm not sure what to do about this, or if you want to do anything about this, but thought I should let you know at the very least.

In any case, I hope you're doing well. I think the work you do here is fantastic and wish you the best going forward. --Grnrchst (talk) 18:35, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Thanks for bringing this up, honestly attribution would have been appreciated but I assume as he pulls maps from the internet he does not think too much that there are people behind them because of how general the internet is. I honestly don't think there is much I can do and to be honest, I am happy it helped spread some knowledge atleast, preferrable to using an inaccurate map. thanks a lot for appreciating my work btw Userd898 (talk) 01:15, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
