Aug 14,2019 image[edit]

The flag that I uploaded on August 14/2019 is modeled after the flag and shield shown in version 2.2 of the NWT Visual Identity Guide, however I intentionally made some changes:

  • I set the flag ratio at 2:1 with a square pale; the guide shows a 9:5 flag with a rectangular pale.
  • I made the border of the shield symmetric and centered it mathematically on the flag centerline.
  • I applied a bit of math to lay out the sine and triangle waves so they don't have a hand drawn appearance.
  • I reduced the thickness of the black strokes used in the triangle wave and the lower sine wave; this is a compromise — the Identity guide shows very fat lines in the shield, but the same guide also includes a photograph of somebody proudly holding the flag, and on that flag the thickness of the black lines has been reduced to zero.
  • I omitted the black borders from the blue sine wave. No regrets. I expect they don't exist in the flag in the photograph, but it is not easy to tell because black and dark blue always blur together.
  • I laid out the gold bars in a mathematical grid such that size and spacing is consistent. The grid is centered on the flag centerline.
  • I applied overlap at all colour boundaries to stop the white background from bleeding through.
