Cleanup[edit]

Why needs this file to be cleaned up? The flags in the middle are perfectly all right. Does anybody know what is meant with this cleanup tag? Otherwise I'd like to remove it. --Mouagip (talk) 19:08, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WHY DID THEY HAVE TO CHANGE THE FLAG AFTER ALL , ALL IT IS IS MATERIAL AND THEREFORE WITH THE CHANGE OF GOVERNMENT ALL THE BLOODSTAINED BLOOD SHED NATURALLY HAD TO BE FORGOTTEN AND FORGIVEN. BUT THAT DID NOT ADDRESS THE PROBLEM OF RELIGEONS INVOLVEMENT IN POLITICS SUCH AS THE " ZULU" WAR ETC BECAUSE I STILL SEE THE CATHOLIC CHURCH AS IN TUTU HAVING A INFLUENCE ON THE MIND SUCH AS A MENTALITY OF UNFORGIVEN HATRED BECAUSE OF PENALTIES AND SUFFERINGS RECEIVED BECAUSE OF THE PAST.

SO WHY DONT THEY NOW RECONCILE THEIR CHURCH TO EXPLAIN WHAT ARE NUNS DOING WITH ARMS IN THE ORDERS OF MONESTERIES.

Colors[edit]

Are there any exact color specifications or are the colors approximations? – Illegitimate Barrister (talkcontribs), 13:00, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Illegitimate Barrister:
I do not think the current purple(!?) colours should be used compared to the previous dark blue version. The CMYK values given are even incorrect as the values for "solway blue" produces a bright green instead of a blue! Further, they look very different to how the flag is depicted anywhere else... Including the example image given above the CMYK values by the south african vexillogical institute itself!! That example, by the way, also closely matches the previous and common depicition.
http://www.savaflags.org.za/spec/South%20Africa%20-%20National%201928-1994%20-%20sheet%201.pdf

I thnk the dark blue, normal colours should be restored instead of this unusual purple. If the recommended (not official) CMYK values were to be followed, it should also be green not blue, according to the current source.

It is not "purple", it just may appear such for you personally. The colour is known as "Solway blue", officially adopted in South African legislation to counter the (erroneous) use of the blue from the British flag - which was explicitly defined as different from the Solway.
The recommended colours are the "official" colours from the SAVA. There is no distinction there. Those are the colours from the source for this file. (Yes, there is a typo in the source, but that hardly invalidates it). Director (talk) 05:04, 16 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Illegitimate Barrister: If you pick up all CMYK values from above PDF, then input into Adobe Color website, and adjust some color values for blue shades to make them closer to w:Union Jack, they should looks like this:

However, they all looks brighter while comparing to Union Jack, and the construction sheet given from PDF has own color shades. But the recommendations also given BCC (British Colour Council) codes, so the key to the question should be how to get BCC standards. --Great Brightstar (talk) 17:58, 24 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Caution: You need to switch the Apply Color Harmony Rule option as Custom while you opened Adobe Color website. --Great Brightstar (talk) 18:03, 24 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Illegitimate Barrister: There is a way to get color approximations, reproduced with Firefox:

  1. Open https://www.pantone.com/color-finder
  2. Click CONVERT, set the Pantone Book as Formular Guide Coated, set Color Space as HEX
  3. Open South Africa - National 1928-1994 - sheet 1.pdf directly from above link, click humburger button -> Web Developers -> Color Picker to pick any hex color code
  4. Paste the color code into Pantone Color Finder page, drop the # prefix
  5. Click SEARCH

Seen from this document, I guess the red and blue (not solway) shades should be the same as the Union Jack. --Great Brightstar (talk) 02:31, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
