The cross doesn't look as good as in bitmap versions; also its placement seems different, compare:

Changes to the Flag[edit]

All changes I made are based on this, only three colors are given in the document, no mention of any grey. And the cross was made by user:Goran tek-en on our request. Kamran.nef (talk) 08:09, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Here is an official rendition of the flag, which can be aeen as a good reference: https://web.archive.org/web/20180201141720/http://gov.mt/en/About%20Malta/PublishingImages/flag.jpg --Great Brightstar (talk) 05:39, 28 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
All real Maltese flag, including those used by the government, use the version with a gray/silver cross. 2601:647:4800:5700:D8D0:D12D:CC99:3561 04:32, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
here is the flag used on the government website. There might be other places where grey color is used but I think it's for more visibility from afar. In Wiki, it is important to use the official instructions. Kamran.nef (talk) 17:09, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Kamran.nef After doing some research, flags in actuality have a gray cross, including on government buildings, in the Olympics, and the actual George Cross medal itself. The white version should be uploaded separately 24.12.3.153 22:35, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Kamran.nef As per MapGrid’s research, the government document suffers from “an extreme lack of quality.” Is it even reliable? 24.12.3.153 22:40, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I know the document lacks quality but That's only for the measurements, it is clear about the colors and I know there are grey versions but I think they are the variants and the one with the white cross is the official version. In my opinion, it should be white. But Either way, both versions now exist in the file history with similar code. It would be great if @MapGrid and others could also comment. I respect the decision of the majority. Kamran.nef (talk) 23:20, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is completely ridiculous, nobody in their right mind has ever drawn the Maltese flag with a white george cross apart from the random intern who hastily created the long-deleted rendition on the old DOI website. Don't turn this into another Austria-Hungary debacle because of stubbornness. It's stupidly obvious that a medal made out of silver is going to be coloured grey when depicted as-per the constitution. Change it back before people start believing it's the real flag, despite being contradicted by every single real-life Maltese flag ever produced. 92.251.53.45 08:13, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just because you do not agree with something that doesn't mean that it was hastily done by a random intern. The flags that you are referring to are most likely based on the old versions of the flag in the Wikipedia page and FOTW page. Our best course of action is to follow the OFFICIAL SPECIFICATIONS which doesn't specify any other color aside from red white and black. I agree that the document is somewhat sloppy but the instructions about the colors are clear. I do not hold a strong opinion one way or the other but I wanted the people who helped creating the flag and did their research say their opinions till we reach a consensus. But until then our safest bet is to follow the instructions. Kamran.nef (talk) 08:53, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The official specifications (which have since been deleted from the official DOI website, implying they were insufficient) you provided contradict reality. This is in line with every single physical Maltese flag used by the government for the last 60 years. Article 2 of the constitution as defined in Act LVIII of 1974, and the public notice given in government gazette no. 15,310 on the 25th of July 1990 clearly specify that the Maltese flag in a red and white bicolour with a representation of the george cross subsequently added (colours unspecified but universally interpreted to mean various shades of silver) edged in red. The sheer arrogance of unilaterally changing the appearance of a people's flag based on a random outdated DOI pdf and subsequently doubling down on it despite the overwhelming physical evidence is astounding. The prior design had been accepted without controversy since 2006. Prosit sieħbi, ħaqqek wejfer. 92.251.53.45 09:20, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This official contract from the Maltese Government as of 2022 notes very specifically that the cross must be "in silver grey background with black letters, circles and St. George". As the document you reference only bases the flag specifications from pictures and does not note specifically that the cross must be white, it's completely clear that your version is incorrect, and that the correct flag displays a silver cross. I feel like this change is based on very tenuous evidence. One 15-year-old PDF from the government of Malta's website showing a white cross does not outweigh all the real world evidence of official use of the silver cross -- especially when the *current* version of that same website very clearly shows a silver cross on the national flag: [1]. The image should be reverted to the way it was before unless we get stronger evidence/consensus for the white version. AquaVacation (talk) 18:50, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
