Isn't the star too small? Srtxg 11:26, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Not according to FOTW, but it seems the colours don't match exactly. ナイトスタリオン 12:46, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
In w:Syriana, which I just saw, I noticed a flag of Jordan in one scene. As I recall, the star was larger, and pointed left, not up. I could be mistaken, though. User:dbenbenn 04:18, 25 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mmmh, indeed, looking at images of real flags flowing in Jordan, the star is actually small. Srtxg 23:47, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Colors[edit]

Can you explain why you reverted my change to the flag despite the sources I provided?--Sakiv (talk) 18:44, 6 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Sakiv: None of your links show a definitive source on what the colours are supposed to be. Your file also has non-standard proportions and a distorted star. If you have a source for the colours, they can be applied to the previous file without the distortions. Fry1989 eh? 18:56, 6 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Fry1989: There is no main standard for Jordan's flag colors as most Arabic-speaking countries do. The distorted star was not intentional due to the vectorization. [1], [2], [3]. Note that the colors of Jordan do not differ from the colors of Palestine.--Sakiv (talk) 14:34, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Fry1989: Do you have any reply??--Sakiv (talk) 16:22, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Sakiv: Whether the distortion was intentional or not does not matter. As I stated, if you are unable to apply your new colours to the previous file without the distortions, please ask another user to do so for you. They may or may not, and you may be required to further justify your choice of colours, but reverting back to a distorted image is not the answer. Fry1989 eh? 23:18, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Fry1989: I didn't choose these colors and the flag that most of these flags are based on had light colors until you came and made them dark for some reason File:Flag of Hejaz 1917.svg.--Sakiv (talk) 23:21, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Sakiv: I edited that image to have the same colours as the others in the Pan-Arab family of flags. If you disagree with it, you can certainly change it, but that was not the issue. The issue was the distortion. I'm sorry that you are frustrated. Fry1989 eh? 13:40, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Sakiv: I just reverted your work and in my reversion comments I misspelled your name. I apologize for the misspelling as it was not intentional.MapGrid (talk) 19:39, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This change is based on one of the most trusted websites regarding flags of nations here. Since the Jordanian flag does not have a specific standard, I relied on the flag used in the 2012 Olympics (,SearchTerms:'FLAGS%20AND%20ANTHEMS%20MANUAL',SortField:!n,SortOrder:0,TemplateParams:(Scenario:,Scope:Default,Size:!n,Source:,Support:,UseCompact:!f),UseSpellChecking:!n)))) which uses PMS 485 red, 355 green. I used Inkscape to get this result. I don't know what to do further.--Sakiv (talk) 19:57, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The 2021 edtion of Album des pavillons lists Pantone 186C(red) and Pantone 356C(green). Many of the flag colours listed on Wikipedia, Vexilla Mundi, and Flags of the World are ultimately derived from colours listed in Album des pavillons. It has been a trusted vexillology source for the last 203 years.
Hexadecimal approximations provided by Pantone are:
186C: #c8102e
356C: #007a33
I suspect that the colours used in this Wikimedia flag since 2005 are based off of 186C and 356C... even if the hexadecimal numbers don't exactly match those provided by Pantone. The numbers are close and conversion is not an exact science.
If anybody asks, I would be supportive of a switch to #c8102e and #007a33. MapGrid (talk) 06:12, 10 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Look, the Hexadecimal approximations used by 2012 Olympics are #da291c, red and #009639, green. I still support these shades. Thanks--Sakiv (talk) 14:17, 10 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@MapGrid: Do you have further input, otherwise the previous version will be restored as it is more correct? The best solution is having the shades I uploaded. If the dimensions is incorrect, you can fix them.--Sakiv (talk) 16:24, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Sakiv: Sometimes the "best solution" is to do nothing. The colours you are trying to use are not "more correct". The London Flag Manual is one of the sloppiest collections of flag images available. I do not usually view it as a trustworthy source. To see how bad the manual is, all you have to do is look at its depiction of the flag of Jordan:
  • the upper and lower tips of the triangle don't align with the corners of the flag
  • the triangle is not vertically centered
  • the ratio of the inner and outer radii of the star vertices is wrong.
Almost all the images in the manual suffer from similar geometry problems and many of the colours are brighter than what we are used to seeing in the real world.
The shade of red you are attempting to use has a bright orange tinge to it; it looks nothing like the colours on the Goverment of Jordan web page [[4]]. So no, I do not wish to support your efforts to change the colours used in this file. MapGrid (talk) 07:07, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@MapGrid: First, I hope that you keep the discussion calm and that your responses are as brief as possible. The main problem is that government institutions use different shades like the Special Communications Commission and the Government itself. Since you have given your opinion, we can wait for others to say what they see fit.--Sakiv (talk) 14:37, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
