Not Joseph Jenkins[edit]
It was previously stated in the file description that the depicted swagman was Joseph Jenkins (1818–1898). This is not the case, since:
- photographs of Jenkin do not match the depicted person, and
- this photograph was created in 1901, and Jenkin died in 1898 (and indeed had left Australia in 1894).
The reasoning for claiming that the man was Joseph was this online biography of Jenkin, which included this file as an illustration. However the image was not captioned as Joseph, either in plain text or in alt text, so it was almost certainly intended as an illustration of the concept of a swagman (especially as this image is the primary image for the Wikipedia article for swagman).
