Wrong date?

[edit]

Hi there, I think the photograph is probably closer to 1940 than 1920. The locomotives hauling the train, Victorian Railways N and X classes, introduced in the mid-to-late 1920s. They've got modifications such as smoke deflectors that were fitted in the late 1930s. The second locomotive, the X class, is fitted with a square topped Belpaire firebox, a change that was introduced to that class progressively from 1938 onwards. There's no sign of overhead wiring so it's pre-1950s. If I had to pick a date, I'd say around 1944, plus or minus 5 years. - Zzrbiker (talk) 03:51, 4 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
