Identification[edit]

This animal does not look like a leopard, but a cheetah!

  • It has evenly-spread spots as a cheetah does. A leopard has rosettes.
  • It has a small head on a long neck, like a cheetah. A leopard has a bigger head on a thicker, more muscular neck.
  • It has a very deep chest and very narrow, greyhound-like waist, like a cheetah, and the musculature is that of a cheetah. A leopard has a more cylindrical body.
  • It has small dog-like feet, like a cheetah, not big lion-like paws, like a leopard.

The Ancient Greeks would presumably have been familiar with both species – why is this thought to be a leopard not a cheetah? Richard New Forest (talk) 14:22, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
