Reverts[edit]

In this version is a bug. The last d is cut. --Revolus 02:57, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For some reason, the system could not generate thumbnails from the latest version of the image, so I reverted it back to the last version uploaded in 2006. --Moonian 05:36, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NOT PUBLIC DOMAIN[edit]

{{Editprotected}} This was created based on the png version, which is dual-licensed gfdl and ccbysa 2.5 nl .... so this svg needs to be licensed under the same terms... can an admin please update the license? Thanks! Cacahuate 08:30, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added the {{editprotected}}. --Thinboy00 23:38, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New look[edit]

{{Editprotected}} I've created a new image to replace the older one. It is more legible, more closely fits the Creative Commons theme, and adds a little more flavour. I doubt this change will cause controversy (because of the reasons listed previous), but if people find it controversial, it can be undone with a simple revert. Here is a comparison of what the CC templates will look like.

The new image can be found here: Image:CC some rights reserved new.svg. Thanks for taking the time to read this request! tkgd2007 (talk) 03:09, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ohh. I like it. Ah. I'll give a little time for anyone to object before I make the big change. This will also give me some time to think about exactly how I'll perform the change.--Gmaxwell (talk) 15:34, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds great—good idea! tkgd2007 (talk) 17:21, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I like it, but... see [1] and [2]. I guess we can if you really want to but I don't think we should overwrite this image (used on other projects and such). Rocket000 (talk) 15:03, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You bring up some good points. Why aren't we currently using http://creativecommons.org/images/public/somerights20.gif? I can easily make a vector version of that that looks almost identical to that image if that seems more logical (which, it looks like it probably would). I don't quite understand why it would be much of a problem to overwrite it though... like as long as it has the same basic meaning and purpose, would it matter if it looked a little bit different? I was thinking of making it a separate file, but then every individual CC template would have to be updated, and I was under the assumption that there is quite a few of them, hence me requesting to override this one. tkgd2007 (talk) 04:49, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think that would be a better idea. And you're right, there are ton of CC licenses, but we got the other projects to think of. They may not want the change. I got an idea though... I've been meaning to make a meta CC template anyway (to update them all at once, standardize, and to replace {{CC-Layout}}) so I can make http://creativecommons.org/images/public/somerights20.gif the default image with parameters to change the icons below it. I can have a RocketBot convert all the templates to use this meta template. Then changing the image (or anything else) in the future would be easy. An SVG would be awesome if you could do that. We could also use a "No rights reserved" one for {{Cc-pd}} and {{Cc-zero}}. There should already be an official SVG version somewhere, see http://creativecommons.org/presskit. If not, you could use one of those as a base. Rocket000 (talk) 05:09, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. There's a logo font you can use. Rocket000 (talk) 05:15, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all the links! Here is the SVG I came up with. It uses the correct CC logo found on their website. I had to create this from scratch because I couldn't find an SVG version of the some rights reserved image. This is what one of the templates would look like...

If you all agree that this is a good decision, I believe what Rocket000 said earlier about the CC-Layout template and the bot should workout great. Thanks for the feedback—tkgd2007 (talk) 20:55, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll create a no rights reserved one if consensus agrees on this change first. Oh and I just made a CC-0 SVG icon too. — tkgd2007 (talk) 21:08, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I believe there was some licensing issue with the official one? something like a spammy requirement that it must directly link back to their site or something? Perhaps I'm remembering incorrectly. Someone should confirm before making any change. On this subject it might be better to also make the licenses include the free cultural works approved tag.--Gmaxwell (talk) 21:12, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This area is fairly grey. Their policies page states "...and provided that, to the extent the licensee is using the mark in an online environment, licensee does not alter or remove the hyperlink embedded in such logo as made available on Creative Commons webpage." Would it be taboo to use the click template to link it to the site. Another possible issue can be seen here "Our “Some Rights Reserved” and “No Rights Reserved” buttons need to be used consistently because they are our trademark and a core part of our licensing system.". Does this mean that the current image in use might be against their policies? This also looks like it might mean that the SVG version I created, though quite similar to the original, might also be against their policies. It's a little confusing... anyone have any insight? tkgd2007 (talk) 01:06, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There may be some trademark issues, but I'm pretty sure what's presented above would fine. Linking the image itself wouldn't be hard anyway (with <imagemap> like in {{Click}}). I'll start working on the CC-meta template and if I finish before we're sure we're going with this new image (which I really hope we do) I'll put in the current image as a placeholder, that way changing it for all templates will only take one edit. Rocket000 (talk) 04:27, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds great -- tkgd2007 (talk) 15:49, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone re-add {{Editprotected}} with a clear explanation of what needs to be done?  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 03:14, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I should have deactivated that. Not ready yet, but here's the meta template. Rocket000 (talk) 06:54, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
