Inquiry about date of photo

[edit]

C. Everett Koop was responsible for banning facial hair in the Navy. The ban took place around January of 1985. So me and my Navy buddies were wondering when this picture was taken. Because we would find it interested if it were taken post-Jan. 1985 and he was defying his own rule by having a beard after his own ban. Does anyone know or can anyone find out exactly when this picture was taken? As a Navy sailor myself who was never allowed to grow a beard, as well as for the interest of other old salty dogs who served during the time of once having beards and then losing that right, we'd all like to know if Admiral Koop was a hypocrite. It would be an interesting piece of information. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 2601:204:C003:4150:1D4B:ABE:93D:9E40 (talk) 23:26, 22 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Description errors?

[edit]

The description seems inaccurate in 2 respects:

  • Koop's predecessor was pictured wearing the uniform, at least in an official photo.
  • Vice admiral is the correct rank of the surgeon general since 1965. (Rear Admiral before that.) Some acting surgeons-general were rear admirals.

Any particular preference on how to change it, since part of the description text is an edited quote from the original source webpage. Errors are apparently theirs; editorialization is ours. TheFeds 09:28, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
