Inaccurate[edit]
I have a problem with this image, at least being used in the Baptism article. The problem is that it depicts a pouring of water, which would be historically inaccurate since baptism was an immersion at the time of Christ and for at least a couple of hundred years afterward. — Jdavidb 20:27, 22 Jul 2004 (UTC) [originally posted to en:File talk:Baptism-christ.jpg]
- I agreed with Jdavidb and when I played the Baptist in a mystery play performance in London in 2009, we depicted (ie. mimed - no water on stage!) total immersion. See my notes on the subject and production photographs - the blue screens represented Jordan and were waved gently by people crouching behind them. — RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 13:07, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
