The "big bang at the stock exchange" apparently means a bourse crash. If so, this should be corrected.

On what basis is it said that this is an anti-semitic caricature? There should be a reference, or at least a context. "Geschichte Österreichs" isn't a reference, it merely means "Austrian history". 199.167.117.39 23:15, 27 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Seriously? You really think that Jewish people all look like this? I don't think so. Rodhullandemu (talk) 23:21, 27 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
How did you manage to interpret my comment as saying that all Jewish people look like the illustration?
There's no information whatsoever about the source of the picture. The alleged source is merely "Austrian history". It might relate to the bourse crash of 1873, or it might not. There's certainly nothing in the picture to link it to Austria or to any specific event. The intention of the illustrator is unknown, and we don't know what it's supposed to represent. We can't even be sure about the copyright status. The image appears in numerous places on the Web, but I couldn't find any information about its source. The description should certainly be deleted, and probably the picture itself. 199.167.117.37 00:54, 28 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

More information about the image was found after a deletion nomination. A link to the original image now appears.

I think the image should be replaced by the uncropped original (with the caption), with a translation. The image is certainly a caricature, but it doesn't seem anti-Jewish in itself; the theme is "how the mighty have fallen!", and Kikeriki was (then) a liberal magazine. I'd remove "Antisemitic" from the description and remove the category "Antisemitic pictures", but I'll let someone more experienced do it. 199.167.117.37 03:46, 28 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest uploading the uncropped original with caption as a separate file (linked to this one). Many users prefer cropped versions, since we already have one, best to have both versions available. I can upload it myself - of course it would be inappropriate to do so while there is still an open request for deletion of this one. @199.167.117.37: , how about you add a message that you withdraw your nomination on deletion requests so it can be closed? Or do still favor deleting this file in light of additional information provided? -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 13:28, 28 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Assistance with translation of German text welcome. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 00:31, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of reference to it being "antisemitic" caricature seems inappropriate. This type of caricature for "Jew" was common at the time and would have been understood by readers at the time. Compare to other cartoons of the era. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 04:09, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The image is certainly a caricature, but it's not anti-Jewish in itself; it doesn't indicate anything unfavourable about Jews. Even if it explicitly said "All Jews have a nose like this" (which it doesn't), that still wouldn't be unfavourable in itself. It's like a stereotypical Frenchman with a beret and a baguette, or an Italian with a toque tossing pizza dough.
It's a detail from a larger image, and the entire image reveals an intention or meaning that this detail entirely fails to reflect. It's not fair to attribute to a detail an anti-Jewish intention which the entire work doesn't justify.
The category "Jewish nose" is appropriate, and I don't propose removing it, but "Antisemitic pictures" is inappropriate. 199.167.117.5 23:33, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
