Whatever is going on in the color information used in this image (and a few others I've occasionally noticed) it shows up as a negative on my iMac screen at reduced sizes — and this is across all the browsers I've thus far tried. It certainly is not yet an appropriate candidate to totally replace the more properly color-registering versions which CommonsDelinker has been replacing it with. ~ Kalki (talk) 13:24, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I will probably bring this up elsewhere eventually, but just wanted to correct my previous comments: I actually tested this further and found that this image actually does not share the universally miscolored or uncolored forms which I have found with other images. Of the browsers I've thus far tested, at reduced sizes, it displays improperly (as a negative) only in Safari, iCab and OmniWeb, but appears okay in Firefox, Opera 9, Opera 10, Camino, Flock, Wyzo, and Sea Monkey. I have also tested one of the images in which I have previously noticed such problems and confirmed that NONE of these browsers will now properly display File:TreeOfLife.svg anywhere but in full page form at http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/62/TreeOfLife.svg — though it does not seem to have been edited and I know that (many months ago, perhaps over a year ago) it used to display colorfully at all sizes. I would assume this is some kind of software problem, but don't know whether it is one manifested in the files themselves, the information-reading or information transmitting applications, or in all. ~ Kalki (talk) 14:17, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The image was originally saved with CMYK option and didn't display correctly. I downloaded it (25 MB!) and saved it without CMYK. --Túrelio (talk) 15:24, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This painting is not stored in the Hermitage Museum. It is, and the others of Aiwasowski as well, stored in the Russian Museum of St. Petersburg, which is about 15 minutes away from the Hermitage.

A copy?[edit]

Hi! This is a photo of the painting published on the official website of the russian museum. As you can see, colors and contrast are considerably different, so I'm wondering if the file uploaded on Commons actually is a copy (like those offered for sale on internet). I'm aware that the difference may depend on the model of the camera which makes the photo, however I'm still in doubt. --87.19.134.227 16:47, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Exceedingly oversaturated[edit]

Sort of a continuation of the above comment, "Copy?", the conservators and painting duplication site, artstudio.com, shows that the original painting is not even remotely as saturated as portrayed in this file. Comparisons can also be made between The Billow duplication work and the final result in the gallery photo, which also shows The Ninth Wave hanging to the right of it. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 08:19, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
