This image of Escape through the Desert, January/February 1969, seems as if a very small ceramic farewell gift left in the sand by a poor Coptic child's grave. Hard to imagine that it's more that seven feet high, 89"x78', but there is a flavor of whimsy in this otherwise very threatening subject of a family escaping from the slaughter of the innocents. But only to a degree.
