Whoa whoa[edit]

OK, I think we might want to slow down a bit here regarding that line. We know those small towns in the south are in rebel control, but it's a huge leap to say that the line of control shoots up through the desert up to Brega. In fact, I seriously doubt it's true. Can the creator of this document please address this issue? Magog the Ogre (talk) 23:21, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Southern Cities[edit]

I kinda agree with the post above, about the line not really being the true front line in the South, but considering the South of Libya is a such a forbidding desert I don't think you there will ever be enough knowledge to draw front lines in these regions. I think at best the author might want to shade it a bit like they did on the other Libyan maps, but that might be more work that really probably isn't too neccessary.

The southern cities should be taken off, like on the other map. 70.187.185.194 03:10, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Move image[edit]

Somebody is making a different image on Wikipedia, and it is causing a corruption in viewing the file in wikipedia. Spesh531 (talk) 22:16, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ras Lanuf[edit]

Ras Lanuf and Al-Uqaila to rebels. Mixx321 (talk) 12:39, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Update[edit]

Al Khums and Zuwara to rebels. See other maps. ~~ Lothar von Richthofen (talk) 16:51, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Al 'Aziziyah to rebels. See other maps.--Paracel63 (talk) 11:47, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Update[edit]

According to The Guardian, rebel troops from Misrata have reached Beni Walid.[1] AssociateAffiliate (talk) 21:34, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I put Bani Walid as under siege, since the rebels have been trying to cut it off. But there's a large ambiguous area. As I've jumped the gun on the Tripolitanian Front map folks before, who seem to be far better informed than I, I've left the line of definite rebel control quite conservative. I've made a couple other changes as well. And man this map really is a displeasure to edit. I'd make a cleaner version if I weren't so lazy. --Quintucket (talk) 19:02, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

An Nofalia[edit]

A town of An Nofalia (21 km to west of Bin Jawad) is secured by Libyan National Liberational army on August 28, please, add this town also to the map

"Murzuq bend?"[edit]

The three towns in the district of Murzuq seem to share some features, as of present (7 September): the line of control _and_ being on the edge (or near it) between sandy and stony desert. Is this a coincidence? I can see a high level of control cannot be equally as important in a sandy desert – if there's no oil or oases to protect. So no news from the sandy desert may not necessarily mean Gaddafi control either. What do you think?--Paracel63 (talk) 06:28, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

District difference in the line of control?[edit]

In the provincial districts of Al Jabal al Gharbi (where Mizdah is located) and Nalut (where Ghadames is located), the red control line randomly knifes upward (or downward, however you want to look at it). I realize this is probably the result of editing one without editing the other, but is there any way it could be fixed by those who know how? 209.172.228.7

Assabah[edit]

There's a source know that indirectly gives us confirmation that Assabah has been freed: http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5jtBLVagtL3gBMAglJJocopxAHhmA?docId=CNG.ee29706d29744c955731a90381f66cc5.451Nightstallion (?) 16:32, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Parts of Sabha under rebels control?[edit]

Excuse me? Is there even news coming from that direction? AlphaBravoCharlie (talk) 23:26, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

al-Biraq[edit]

Anti-Gaddafi forces attacked al-Briq and whole district from north, not south. They advanced by road from Mizdah, directly south to al-Briq. Also Toubou tribesmen are not presented in Murzuq triangle (or Murzuq sand sea, it does not contain Murzuq which status is still unclear) as Tuareg mercenaries according to their testimonies fled through there to Niger. However they have under their control border with Chad. --EllsworthSK (talk) 19:09, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for both clarifications. :-) Do we have sources (RS if possible) on this? Timeline/Fezzan campaign articles would need this. Many TIA--Paracel63 (talk) 20:52, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
CNN Ben Wedeman articles who travelled with NLA fighters from Tripoli to al-Biraq. So its either his videos on CNN website or his twitter account. --EllsworthSK (talk) 23:14, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Yes, I found a Ben twitpic concerning Al-Biraq and went from there. Haven't found info on Mizdah-Al-Biraq connection yet, though. Must be somewhere in there.--Paracel63 (talk) 23:32, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Kufrah[edit]

I found a source that says Gadhafi still holds Kufrah/Al Jawf: [2] 70.187.185.194 16:46, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The source says kafra, not kufra, and also calls it a gadafi stronghold which Al Jawf is not he clearly is referring to a different town,MonteMiz (talk) 21:29, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
AJE seems to mix Kufra (NTC stronghold to the east) with Jufra (Jufra/Hun, where fighting has just started), making it into (Al-)Kafra. "Zela" from the news item would probably be this (Zillah).--Paracel63 (talk) 21:50, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sabha fighting[edit]

Al Jazeera confirms an NTC report that there is fighting in the City of Sabha. Is this enough for the city to be coloured blue? BlackEagle17 (talk) 18:35, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sabha on NTC hands[edit]

CNN reporter in the City of Sabha with NTC-fighters. Seems like time to change color status for Sabha. See CNN live coverage on http://www.cnn.com/2011/09/20/world/africa/libya-sabha/index.html?hpt=wo_c1 80.199.44.10 17:28, 20 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ghat District[edit]

Someone screwed up the borders in the Ghat district, so can someone please fix it? 70.187.185.194 23:27, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sabha is under the Old Gov Control[edit]

http://edition.cnn.com/2011/10/01/world/africa/libya-war/index.html?hpt=iaf_c2

"Ibrahim effectively claimed victory in Bani Walid, which along with Sabha and Sirte are the few major municipalities not yet under opposition control." (cnn)

Please fix the map! --Kyknos (talk) 21:35, 1 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's obviously some kind of copy-and-paste error; they don't mention Sabha in that article except in that single line. —Nightstallion (?) 01:06, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Public domain status[edit]

In response to the tag, I'm honestly not sure if this passes the threshold of originality. It would be nice to have more information from AzaThoth, as I'm not especially familiar with the laws here. I suspect that the design alone, the colors and such qualify it for copyright. But certainly underlying synthesis of facts are not under dispute; if it were a non-free license (which it obviously isn't on the Commons), I would make a very similar map that would be in the public domain. Bit its presence on the Commons, with the revision history makes this specific image important. Personally, I think the image should have been released in the public domain at the start, but I'm not sure it actually is in public domain. --Quintucket (talk) 17:49, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It honestly depends on which country you're talking about. Countries with very low thresholds like the United Kingdom would certainly deem this copyrightable. In the United States, the original map design is probably copyrightable, but the additional colors are not. It seems to me that it's best to leave up the self-created copyright notice for the sake of the countries with the lower threshold. Magog the Ogre (talk) 21:59, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ghat[edit]

What evidence is there that the NTC has taken it? I can find none. --Quintucket (talk) 18:12, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

See the discussion for the Libyan Uprising map for proof. 69.235.80.253 02:41, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Speaking of Ghat, I think User:Rancalred and User:Elkranger (and possibly User:Hoang003) are the same person, each with Ghat, and they are using false sources and are anti-NTC, just saying it as a neutral point. --Spesh531, My talk, and External links 16:02, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks 69.etc. I must say, that's some excellent sleuthing on the part of EllsworthSK. --Quintucket (talk) 22:32, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. EllsworthSK (talk) 13:55, 12 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yellow Boxes[edit]

Can someone please update the yellow boxes? 1. It is clear that the rebels have taken Ghat. 2. G forces do not control most of Sirte anymore. Thanks. 69.235.80.253 15:59, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
