Reason for flares[edit]

I don't understand what I see here. Was that magnesium flare an accident or is it part of a technique? --Ikiwaner 18:14, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've watched many a fresh marking be applied to the roadway and we've never used flares placed onto the fresh marking, so I'm not 100% sure why they were there when I visited only a couple hours after the markings had been applied. My best guess is that the paint crews placed them onto the fresh pavement to keep motorists from driving over them -- the manner in which the original markings had to removed from the concrete bridge deck meant that they were still somewhat visible, so the markings may have been intended to reinforce the modified traffic pattern. --Thisisbossi 00:22, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
