The Star Cycle Company did not make a car until 1899. This car did not arrive in Auckland until September 1900 - see Auckland Weekly News of 5th October 1900. This picture is in the paper on this date. The car was supposed to have arrived on S S Whakatane which made its maiden voyage on February 1900 and left England in early July 1900 (second voyage?)which is when this car must have been in the cargo.

Not so, see Star Motor Company and its the first car in the rough back blocks part of NZ (only partly joking) then called Auckland. All the money for these fripperies was with the residents of Dunedin and Christchurch. Eddaido (talk) 00:27, 8 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
My money would be on arrival on the Whakatane in September 1900 not 1899 because then the rest of the story fits and certainly the Whakatane (refrigerated, 12 passengers, world luxury tours etc) was working round NZ that month. Unfortunately it is used in the same article that says Star began cars in 1899 so someone should point both errors out to Dr Osborne and he might change that part of his story too. Dunno where you could find him though. Eddaido (talk) 11:10, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
