Summary[edit]
| Description |
English: Spark spectra (12V) of zinc and cadmium, plus the emission spectrum of mercury taken from a streetlamp. The spectra of zinc and cadmium resemble each other unusually closely, since their similar electron structures produce analogous lines at similar wavelengths. Mercury shows less resemblance, but the lines are still analogous: the green line and the two violet lines correspond to the other metals' bright green-blue lines, while mercury's yellow line corresponds to the other metals' red lines. All three also have a fainter green or blue-green line that is hard to see except in mercury. |
