Summary[edit]

Description
English: Creator: Unidentified for Queensland Newspapers Pty Ltd.

Location: Brisbane, Queensland.
Description: Model sits as she has liquid hosiery applied to her legs in a demonstration at a department store in Brisbane, September 1941. Nylon stockings became scarce during World War II as nylon was rationed for the manufacturing of parachutes, ropes and netting. Hence, a new fashion arose from the nylon ration called liquid stockings. This lead to the establishment of liquid hosiery bars appearing in department stores. Alas, the trend was not too last as liquid hosiery was soon prohibited by the Department of War, Organisation of Industry as essential chemicals were being used in the manufacture of the stocking substitute.
