Summary[edit]

Description
English: YWCA Clubs- the work of the Young Women's Christian Association in Wartime, Norfolk, England, UK, 1944
A scene in the busy canteen at the YWCA club at the Close in Norwich. British and American servicewomen enjoy a chat over a cup of coffee and a snack. On the left is Sergeant Terry Phipps of the Women's Army Corps (WAC), from Buffalo, New York. Sgt Phipps has two grown up children: a daughter of 18 and a son of 22. Her son is not fit enough to join up, so Sgt Phipps decided to serve in his place. Notices above the counter include the tariff for refreshments (tea is 1d and coffee 2d), a notice that lunches are served on Sundays between 1pm and 1:45pm and another which reads: "All service men friends are very welcome". Another servicewoman (right) is applying face powder from a compact.

This tag is designed for use where there may be a need to assert that any enhancements (eg brightness, contrast, colour-matching, sharpening) are in themselves insufficiently creative to generate a new copyright. It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag.

Note: This tag applies to scans and photocopies only. For photographs of public domain originals taken from afar, {{PD-Art}} may be applicable. See Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag.
