Deutsch: Otto von Bismarck
(geb. 1815, gest. 1898, von 1871 bis 1890 Reichskanzler des Deutschen Reiches) Reichsgründer, Urheber des Sozialistengesetzes und des modernen Sozialstaates 1847 heiratete Bismarck Johanna von Puttkamer, mit der er drei Kinder hatte. Die Juristenlaufbahn des späteren „Eisernen Kanzlers“ endete früh: Aus dem Referendariat in Aachen wurde er vorzeitig entlassen. Alles Bürokratische langweilte ihn. Auch die Verwaltung seiner Güter füllte ihn nicht aus. 1844 gelang ihm der Einstieg in die Politik als Mitglied des pommerschen Provinziallandtags. Bismarck gerierte sich politisch radikalkonservativ, vor allem in der Revolution von 1848. Zu radikal für den König. Friedrich Wilhelm IV. notierte auf einer Vorschlagsliste: „Nur zu brauchen, wo das Bajonett schrankenlos waltet.“ Bismarcks Stunde kam mit dem Verfassungskonflikt von 1861. Der preußische Minister Präsident und (ab 1867) Kanzler des Norddeutschen Bundes Otto von Bismarck wurde der politische Architekt des deutschen Kaiserreichs und ab 1871 Reichskanzler. Außenpolitisch verschaffte der geschickte Diplomat Deutschland durch ein fragiles Geflecht von Bündnisverträgen und Geheimabkommen über 40 Jahre Frieden. Innenpolitisch dagegen kämpfte er kompromisslos, gegen die katholische Kirche um die Zivilehe und gegen die Sozialisten. Auch die Einführung der gesetzlichen Krankenversicherung, Unfallversicherung und Rentenversicherung ab 1883 war politisches Kampfmittel. Sie sollte die Arbeiter gegen die SPD und für den Staat einnehmen. Aber mit der Arbeiterversicherung legte Bismarck die Grundlagen unseres Sozialstaates. |
