| Description |
The church was built in 1893 by C. H. Fowler to replace the earlier church of St Andrew which was too small and located on the main crossroads. The graveyard still exists. The church cost £1,800 to build. It is built in brick with a wooden floor and has a tiled roof. There is a broad nave and south aisle, chancel, Lady Chapel and vestry. There was originally no chancel, and this was completed in 1904 with a plain east window which was replaced by the present one in 1920. The rood screen was also added in 1920, and the panelled walls added in 1928. The church has a small bell turret at the south east end of the church, built in the 1930’s. There is a plaque and colour of 617 Squadron “The Dam Busters”. There is another to the later 619 Squadron based at Woodhall. |
