Summary[edit]

Description
English: The former residence of SS-Standartenführer (= SS Colonel) Karl Jäger (1888-1959) on Bismarckstrasse in Waldkirch is visited as part of a historical walking tour on the topic "Waldkirch under National Socialism" organized by the "Ideas Workshop on Waldkirch in the Nazi Era" and the "Working Group on Resistance and Labor History". The framework was the annual Monuments Open Doors Day (the German iteration of European Heritage Days), organized in 2013 with the theme "Beyond the Good and Beautiful: Uncomfortable Monuments?".
As the leader of the Einsatzkommando 3 in Lithuania, Jäger headed the murder of 137,000 Jews, Russian POWs, Poles, Communists, mentally disabled individuals, and Romani people.
