Deutsch: Tafel zum Tränenkeller am Schiller-Gymnasium in Witten

„TRÄNENKELLER“

In diesem Gebäude, dem ehemaligen Lyzeum,
befand sich nach der Machtübernahme
der Nationalsozialisten der „2. Sturm 30“
der „SS-Standarte“. In den Jahren 1933/34
übten hier SS und SA widerrechtlich Polizei-
gewalt aus. Sie nahmen politische Gegner,
vorwiegend Sozialdemokraten und Kommunisten,
gefangen, um ihnen unter brutalen Verhör-
methoden Geständnisse abzupressen und sie
einzuschüchtern. Die Folterungen fanden
auf dem Dachboden der Schule, meist aber in
den fensterlosen Kellerräumen entlang der
Breddestraße und des Schulhofes statt.
Daher erhielt dieser Ort im Volksmund die
Bezeichnung „Tränenkeller“.
Einige der Täter wurden nach 1945 wegen
„Verbrechen gegen die Menschlichkeit“ verurteilt.
