The first watcheswere made about 475 years ago, but they were very large, and youwould almost need to have a man to carry your watch for you, itwas so heavy. Smaller watches were first made about 200 yearsago, and now they have some that are so very small that you couldcarry six or seven of them in your vest pocket without inconveni-ence. How else could we tell about the time of the departure oftrains and steamboats, the hours to go to work in the factory or to goto school, when to go to church?
