The operator should of coursetake every precaution to prevent as lit-tle soiling as possible of the scrotalwound and should make the incision inthe scrotum so that drainage will beperfectly free with the patient in eitherthe recumbent posture or when erect. In these cases where suppuratingsinuses exist, it is impossible to securean absolutely sterile condition of thescrotal wound, and suppuration may beexpected to follow. Provision shouldbe made for the escape of the pus.Gauze alone should not be trusted fordrainage, but rubber tubing should beused. The parts may suppurate freelyfor a few days after the ope ration andnecessitate frequent changes of thedressing. Care should be used incleansing the wound cavity not to irri-gate with a solution which may makeits way up into the inguinal wound.
