rde, a wide, openslope, which is a great grazing ground for thesheep The name Salta Verde, the GreenLeap, is taken from a high precipice which iscovered with verdure in the rainy season. Itis on this coast that we come across a remark-able range of color cliiTs; the predominating color of the rocks seems to be lavender or lightmauve, but yellow, red, pink, green and greyall blend together producing a most beautifuleffect. As we pass down the coast we notice aquantity of volcanic ash and from this pointlooking backward, we get a magnificent view ofthe cliffs near the end of the Island. The highridges seem to come down from the mountainsand to have been cut off almost sheer, formingcliffs nearly five hundred feet high, right downinto the sea. We next come to China Point, which is afamous smuggling ground for Chinamen.Nearly a score were caught in 1911. It seemsthat the practice has been to land Chinamenwho are endeavoring to enter America on SanClemente Island, which is further from the
