Wheat Barge Tree Stump

| Description |
English: The Wheat Barge Tree was a Modesto City Historic Landmark, and was recognized by the city's Landmark Preservation Commission. The Wheat Barge Tree Stump is located in Tuolumne Regional Park on the east side of Tioga Avenue north of the Tuolumne River. Folk history suggests that this tree is where barges tied up on their way down the Tuolumne River while transporting wheat from Waterford. It may have been in use since the 1860s or 1870s. Unfortunately at the time this photo was taken, the Wheat Barge Tree has been cut down, with only the stump remaining. It was estimated to have been over 150 years old. |
