Summary[edit]
DescriptionWestern Education and Library Board - geograph.org.uk - 359997.jpg |
English: Western Education and Library Board. This is the original main block that was known as the Education Offices. In the early 1900s, it was known as Campsie House and was occupied by the Fleming family. These linked pictures were provided by the Fleming family - see http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/lh/photo/sbIlQ4UgW4N_63bhucw8Mw?feat=directlink and http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/lh/photo/wsaSSAPt6w-x6k9ADtws5Q?feat=directlink
There used to be a long window at the head of the landing here but when the stairs were repositioned, the front door and window (above the line of the cones) was taken away to an unknown location - http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/lh/photo/ZpZK4x3h0D_lwZhjZ2BJgA?feat=directlink Hans Fleming was married to Emily French who was related to the singer/artist/engineer Percy French. http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/topics/William_Percy_French Dr Hans Flemings forebear was the original surveyor of Omagh and the 1876 Co. Tyrone records show that at that time he owned 185 acres and lived in Omagh. He married Emily French Oct. 20, 1857 Dec 2, 1941 (84) DRUMRAGH GRAVE-YARD (New Section) This is the camera that took the pictures in the attached links http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/lh/photo/cZ8X9qb4A8tv0_fyZmt5-w?feat=directlink Another residence owned by the Fleming family was at Coneywarren - see http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/lh/photo/tyUxd3AkMgDbKmOsjKdyqw?feat=directlink Unlike Campsie House, it did not survive as it was demolished to make way for the children's home, which itself is now derelict |
