For hour after hour theywere held in check at this spot, but at about twooclock in the afternoon, in spite of the stubborn re-sistance offered by General Prevost and his men, whocontested every inch of the ground, the enemy, foiledat Loubiere, succeeded under cover of the heavy guns ofthe French squadron in establishing their position atWoodbridge Bay. They then entered Roseau from thenorthern suburb and the defenders were withdrawnfrom Loubiere.
