Summary[edit]

Description
English: “Well! Now Let’s ‘Tend to Business!”
	Cartoonist: John Campbell Cory
	Source: Harper's Weekly
	Date: November 14, 1908, pp. 18-19
Although Harper’s Weekly had supported Republican William Howard Taft over Democrat William Jennings Bryan, this cartoon reflects the fact that the journal was not pleased with the campaign or with the Republican administration of President Theodore Roosevelt. A grim-faced Uncle Sam holds a newspaper that celebrates Taft’s election, but the national symbol admonishes the president-elect and the country to begin the serious business of governing. Strewn across the floor are discarded references to (left-right) the “noise” of Socialist nominee Eugene Debs, the Standard Oil scandal, the “mud” and “antics” of the Roosevelt administration, Senator Joseph Foraker’s “flummox” about the Brownsville incident, and other negative aspects of the campaign and present administration.
