Summary[edit]

Description
English: Welcome to Canewdon I have been fascinated by this place ever since the kids at school told me about its myths and legends. You can clearly see on the sign the black witch hovering above. Canewdon has a strong tradition of witchcraft dating back to the Essex witch trials. The last witch in England was supposedly executed here in the village pond, and it is said that whilst the church tower stands there will always be six witches living in Canwedon. A beautiful area of south-east Essex, certainly with lots of character, but walking around this little village, there is definitely a sense of the peculiar. You can read more about the Canewdon witches here: http://www.headlesshorseman.co.uk/churchghosts.html
