Summary[edit]

Description
English: Field or service uniform of the coastal artillery (German: Küstenartillerie/Marineartillerie) of the navy of Nazi Germany (Kriegsmarine) during World War II
  • Field-grey (feldgrau, greenish grey) tunic/blouse/jacket/coat (German: Feldbluse) worn ashore by coastal defense enlisted men (Mannschaften)
    • M40 pattern KM ground troops tunic with five-buttoned front closure, open collar, four front pockets (upper two patch pockets with scalloped flaps and pleats), etc.
    • Anchor symbol on grey buttons
    • Plain shoulderstraps (Schulterklappen) with embroidered yellow crossed anchors symbol indicating coastal artillery
    • Pair of NCO Litzen (Doppellitze, 'double braid') on collar patches/tabs (Litzenspiegel, Kragenspiegel) with stripes in yellow
    • National Emblem (Hoheitszeichen or Wehrmachtsadler, "armed forces eagle"): eagle-and-swastika (Hakenkreuzadler) as a yellow breast eagle (Brustadler) over right chest pocket.
    • Double chevron on left sleeve as rank insignia of an Obergefreiter ("Seaman 2nd class"); cloth badge with double stripes of flat weave forming a V shape
  • Kriegsmarine field-grey uniforms were first introduced in 1935 for issue to land based personnel (naval artillery detachments or trainees at shore establishments) and the design of the uniform was based on the army pattern with minor variations. The insignia worn on the field-grey uniforms was the standard Kriegsmarine type and included the distinctive rank and career shoulder boards and straps. (The uniform was basically the same as the Army's except that the Navy buttons and National Emblem were gold instead of gray, and the Navy shoulder marks carried no piping.)
