Summary[edit]

Description

Water hyacinth produces vast, thick mats that clog waterways, crowding out native plants and making boating, fishing, and swimming almost impossible. Because water hyacinth cannot survive when winter temperatures drop below freezing, climate change will only make the problem worse. Rising temperatures will allow this pest to invade new areas, and the plant will likely spread north.
