| Description |
English: DURHAM CATHEDRAL The front of the exchequer and chancery of the palatinate built by Robert Neville (1404-1457), Bishop of Durham 1438-57. Arms of Neville: Gules, a saltire argent, with crest above, On a bishop's mitre on a helm a bull's face cabossed (Neville) (now missing horns). The Bishop of Durham was a military commander as well as an ecclesiastic, reflected in the mitre sitting on a military helm. The arms of the See of Durham above. |
