| Description |
English: The painting depicts Jesus walking on the water of the Sea of Galilee. According to the Biblical narrative Jesus sent his disciples in a boat to Bethsaida. At half way Jesus walked over the lake and met them. Peter walked out onto the water towards Jesus but he became afraid and started to sink. Jesus rescued him. This scene appears on the painting.
The painting itself can be seen in the Greek Catholic Cathedral of Hajdúdorog, Hungary. It was painted around the beginning of the 20th century by unknown painter. Right now it hangs on the Eastern wall of the Western arch that separates the main nave and the Southern side-nave.
Magyar: A festmény azt a jelenetet ábrázolja, amikor Jézus a Galileai-tenger vizén jár. A bibliai elbeszélés szerint Jézus hajón Bethszaidába küldte tanítványait, és amikor azok félúton jártak Jézus a vízen járva találkozott velük. Péter is kiszállt a bárkából, és elindult a vízen Jézus felé, de megijjedt a hullámoktól, ezért a Messiásnak ki kellett őt mentenie a habok közül. A festményen ez a jelenet elevenedik meg.
Maga a festmény a hajdúdorogi görög katolikus székesegyházban látható. Hozzávetőleg a 20. század elején festette ismeretlen festő. Jelenleg a kép a templom főhajóját és déli mellékhajóját elválasztó nyugati boltív keleti falán függ. |
