| Description |
English: Wakering Stairs This point is the start of the ancient path across Maplin Sands known as the Broomway. This was the only way on to Foulness until relatively recently - the present road onto Foulness (only military pass-holders are allowed) was only fully completed in 1922. The Broomway runs for about six kilometres parallel with the coast with five access points onto Foulness Island. Warning notices explain that much of it is unmarked and hazardous for walkers and vehicles! When the tide is high as here, its use is out of the question! |
