Summary[edit]

Description

Workers watch the launching of the schooner Hauppauge, the largest ship ever built in North Carolina at that time, from the dry docks of the Wilmington Iron Works in Wilmington, N.C., on October 10, 1917. The ship was badly damaged by sea mines from German submarine U-151 on May 25, 1918 [photograph was color corrected from original for display purposes].
