| Description |
Joost Middendorp verkocht in 1697 tabak in dit pand. Op de gevelsteen staat een boer uit het Gooi. Hij heeft in zijn rechterhand een tabaksblad en zijn andere hand rust op een rol tabak. De steen dateert vermoedelijk uit 1756, toen de toenmalige eigenaar, Bruyn Schuylenburg, het pand liet verbouwen. De steen was bedoeld als herkenningsteken, zodat men kon zien dat hier tabak verkocht werd. Dat was in die tijd heel gebruikelijk. Men toonde het beroep of het ambacht door middel van gevelversieringen zoals uithangborden of gevelstenen. Er was namelijk nog geen huisnummering of kadaster waarmee men het huis kon aanduiden.
