W.F. Ford (SP 302), National Museum of Health and Medicine Description: Image of W.F. Ford, Co. K, 8th Ohio Volunteers, with a consolidated fracture of the femur. He was wounded in a charge at Antietam on September 17, 1862. Photograph taken at the Army Medical Museum. Caption reads: “Surgical Photograph No. 302. Prepared under the supervision of Assistant Surgeon George A. Otiss, U.S.A. by order of the Surgeon General. War Department, Surgeon General’s Office, Army Medical Museum.” History is on reverse: "Surgeon General’s Office, Army Medical Museum. Photograph No. 302. Consolidated Fracture of the Femur. W.F. Ford, Co. K, 8th Ohio Volunteers, was wounded in a charge at Antietam, Maryland, September 17, 1862, by a ramrod which transfixed the right thigh in the upper third. He was treated in hospital at Frederick, Maryland; subsequently in other hospitals, and was finally discharged the service March 2, 1863. He visited the Army Medical Museum March 27, 1871, and a photograph was taken. His health was good, but there was a slight lameness from anchyloses of the hip-joint. Photographed at the Army Medical Museum. By order of the Surgeon General: George A.
