Deutsch: Ausschnitt aus dem Vergil-Mosaik.

Das Mosaik stammt aus dem 3. Jahrhundert n.Chr. und wurde im antiken Ort "Hadrumetum" im heutigen Sousse in Tunesien entdeckt. Es ist jetzt im Bardo-Museum in Tunis ausgestellt.
Der Dichter Vergil hält sein Werk "Aeneis" in der Hand. Links steht die Muse "Klio" (Geschichte) und rechts steht die Muse "Melpomene" (Tragödie).
Auf dem Ausschnitt ist das Folgende zu lesen:

Das sind die Worte, mit denen der zweite Satz von Vergils epischem Meisterwerk beginnt.
English: The great Latin poet, Virgil, holding a volume on which is written the Aenid. On either side stand the two muses: "Clio" (history) and "Melpomene" (tragedy). The mosaic, which dates from the 3rd Century A.D., was discovered in the Hadrumetum in Sousse, Tunisia and is now on display in the Bardo Museum in Tunis, Tunisia.
