| Description | Sanyo made several versions of this Micro-Pack tape recorder. One for Channel Master (1961) and one under its own label (1964) in addition to this version. The Sanyo Micro-Pack was a proprietary cartridge format employing two stacked reels (not one, as in 8-track, and not side-by-side as in Compact Cassette). The format, well suited to field recording, had an inherent flaw: because the capstan pulled the reel, and not the tape, speed stability was poor. After a few years on the market it was overwhelmed by Compact Cassette and (in the US) the 8-track. More in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-Qr0wNTFHA. |
