Description
Deutsch: Minerva, Wien 1, Hoher Markt 3, 1949. Marmor, Ende 2./Mitte 3. Jh. n. Chr. Weihungen an Minerva, die Göttin der Kriegskunst, sind häufig in Militärlagern anzutreffen. Sie ist in ein langes Gewand gekleidet und stützt sich mit der linken Hand auf einen ovalen Schild. Daneben sitzt ein geflügeltes Tier, möglicherweise eine Sphinx. Die Statuette stammt aus einem Kulturraum eines der beiden hier präsentierten Tribunenhäuser. Der zugehörige Sockel mit Inschrift fehlt.
English: Minerva, 1st district of Vienna, Hoher Markt 3, 1949. Marble, end of 2nd/middle of 3rd century A.D. Offerings to Minerva, the goddess of war, can often be found in military camps. The goddess, dressed in a long garment, leans on an oval shield with her left hand. Beside her sits a winged animal, possibly a sphinx. The figurine comes from a ritual room of one of the two officers' houses presented here. The corresponding base with the inscription is missing.
