Piazza Armerina (EN), ITA - Posta in una valle appena lambita dal fiume Gela, la Villa romana del Casale costituisce la “pars dominica” di un più vasto latifondo incentrato sulla mansio posta in contrada Sofiana. Il latifondo pertinente alla villa padronale, citato nell’ Itinerarium Antonini, prende il nome di Filosofiana. Dopo un iniziale abbandono delle campagne avvenuto tra il I e il III sec d.C., il Praedium diviene centro organizzativo durante la ripresa della politica agraria in Sicilia, a seguito della fondazione di Costantinopoli. |
