Summary[edit]

Description
Deutsch: Victoria – Borussia.
English: Victoria - Borussia. Above everything, as the coronation of the column, the approximately 40-ton, 8.32-meter-high, gold-leaf bronze goddess of victory by the sculptor Friedrich Drake (1805-1882) "hovers". Victoria with spread wings, standard and iron cross holds the laurel wreath aloft with her right hand. She wears the Prussian eagle helmet on her head, which also makes her appear as Borussia, the personification of Prussia. The Berlin vernacular soon affectionately christened it “Goldelse” after the title of a serial novel that was popular at the time in the journal Gartenlaube.
