Trout Fishing in the Koksilah River The Game Fish of the Island TROUT—Practically speaking-, all the streams and lakesof Vancouver Island contain trout of some kind orother, chiefly rainbow, or cut-throat. Very large fish arecaught in the bigger lakes by trolling, but there is no troutwater in British Columbia where the fish will not take afly. Larger fish are caught on the fly as a general rule inthe streams than in the lakes. In the heat of midsummerwhen the rivers are low and fly-fishing is hardly practicable,except in the early morning and late evening, excellentsport is given by sea-trout in the estuaries. These sea-runfish average heavy, two-pounders being common, three-pounders by no means rare and four and even six-poundersoccasionally caught. As a general rule, they take a fly welleven in the salt water. SALMON—^Of the several varieties of Paciflc salmonwhich run in millioins all along- the coasts of VancouverIsland, there are two only with which the sportsman isconcerned
